why would the moon ring like a bell for 3 hours when the Apollo astronauts deliberatly jettisoned a fuel tank?

the Apollo moon missions during the late 70's.,make mention of this when they deliberatly slammed a reserve fuel tank into the surface of the moon...to explicitly test the sesmic response..and earlier accounts of the moon vibrating like a giant bell after the impact.

For the record, the last Apollo mission took place in 1972, this is not "late 70's". And it was not a fuel tank, it was the now spent ascender stage of the LEM.

The moon has a cooled down center, no molten magma inside. Since everything is essentially now a single solid chunk, there is very little dampening taking place.
