Why do I have a pain in my side when standing?

When I stand up for a while, I often get this sharp pain at about 3 inches right of my belly button at about an inch higher than my belly button height, that lasts for a while. It is generally in the area where you can feel your lowest rib on the right side of your belly. I usually get it at work, and other times when I’m outside standing up for a long duration (golfing).

Some days I get it, some not. People have told me to drink more water and I’m not really sure if it helps or not because I’ll drink the same amount on a good or bad day.

It seems to creep up on me sometimes, like I can start to feel a pain. When I have it I want to kind of put my hands on my knees like I’m tired after exercising. I walk all day long outside at a garden center.

It has been consistently over 80 degrees here and I usually wear a hat. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it.
It’s been happening for the past couple of months.

another possibility is a hernia…especially if you are lifting heavy objects or straining while doing physical work. are your bowel movements normal? If it continues I would document your pain well (ie when it occurs, how long it lasts, type and intensity of pain) and talk to a doctor about it.
